Beyond the Borderlands

Out West

We headed out west (for real this time).

The mission was to go after dogtooth, he had stolen an Axe from a local woodsmen and the family wanted it back. Craven, Balor, Flagon and hired help Hurwood took on the mission.

The journey west was quick and uneventful, we sighted the ruins of the watch tower on the evening of the second day. The glowing camp fires gave away the dog tooth gang.

We were not as sneaky as we had hoped to be on our approach. Craven was spotted and got an arrow for his troubles. Flagon returned fire, everybody charged up the embankment of the ruins looking for cover.

At the top there we 7 or 8 guys which we got stuck in.

We worked our way though the minions, Craven freed up and pressed forward to take the boss. The bosses body guards stepped in and Craven was down for the count. With three minions still to go the boss picked up Cravens unconscious body. He put a knife to his throat, demanding we all drop our weapons.

Balor used to pause in the action to heal. Flagon ran at the boss, the guy he was fighting landed a blow, not too much damage. Fate smiled as Flagan swung his sword, crit! the boss took a bunch of damage and started bleeding out, dying before he could follow through on his threat.

We quickly mopped all who will still standing.

Out West... er East

We headed out west East
After traveling all day we set up camp, Will and Crichton went hunting while Fillio and Balor hung out by the fire.

We soon picked up some tracks and found ourselves face to face with a charging boar. Will got off a good shot, but it didn’t slow down and mauls Crichton to within a few wounds of his life.
We ate well that night.

In the morning, feel rested we headed west east some more, finding a crazy guy pissing and yelling at a stone head. We chatted for a while he eventually pointed us in the direction of the Gnolls camp.
We should come back to this area for further exploring.

Heading northwest northeast the traveling was easy. Though Will had a bit of trouble with a skeleton that didn’t take to kindly to being searched.

After more walking we saw the smoke of the Gnoll camp on the horizon. It was a descend sized camp of maybe 10 tents from what we could see. We decided to move up quietly, Fillon found it difficult to keep from making noise. We soon had a party of six Gnolls and Three Hyena approaching. Will stood up and let off a couple of pot shots, claiming the first kill he was then set upon by the remaining Hyena. Everybody was trying to get the hyena off Will and heal him up, in the end it was Will’s cane that did the trick. The constant barrages of incoming Bola hampered our strategies, nobody was able to dodge them. Just as we hit the ground the close range Gnolls would charge up to finish us off. The first Gnoll in was after Fillion, Fillion was ready and stood up in front of him, pistol drawn and unloaded point blank. It was a close fought battle Fillion was dropped in the fracas and with the battle winding up the load shots from Fillions gun had raised the alarm in the camp.

Only one thing to do run. Crichton picked up the unconscious Fillion and we all bolted. All we got from the fight was 4 of their pendants.

It took many hours before we felt like we had lost them. Once we felt safe our attentions turned to trying to heal our wounds and waking Fillion.
Everybody was keen to rest up after the skirmish and long chase. Though our camp site was not well chosen, just as we were going to sleep the local spider population descended on us. They were quickly and zealously dispatched with excessive force. Will goat got bitten and was in a bad way, fortunately the paralysis was temporary.

In the morning the group decided to head back to the Gnoll camp for another round of action. We were all hoping to be a bit more sneaky this time. After walking back to where we thought the camp should be nothing was looking familiar. So we kept walking a bit further, the tall grass of the plains started to give way to the squelch of bog. Everybody took the chance to bath in the ‘healing bog water’ before we made camp.

It was Crichtons watch not long after midnight when the next attack arrived. Will got off a good shot and dropped one of the shadowy humanoid figures. The now familiar sound of bola flying through the air told us we were facing another party of Knolls. Crichton cut one of them out of the air before getting hit by a second, once on the ground the Hyena attacked. The pack mauled Crichton badly, putting him out of action for 3 rounds and it was another 2 rounds before he felt his reactions returning to normal. While Crichton was wrestling with the Hyena, Balor had charged forward and was attacking the largest of the knolls. On his own constantly being tripped and pounded, he eventually succumbed to the Knoll pack. Fillion who came to Balors aid was next to fall. Will who had been working on the Crichtons hyenas went to their rescue, the boss Knoll took a massive swing at him and missed, losing his grip on his axe. Crichton finally managed to finish off the last hyena jumped up and charged at the now unarmed boss. On of the minions stepped in to protect his boss, swinging at the running Crichton. It connected but didn’t slow his pace. One last blow ended the boss and made all Balors hard count. With the boss gone the swinging minion was next and the rest soon followed.

Will and Crichton then went to work, stabilizing Balor then Fillion. Everybody was glad the battle didn’t go any longer or we may not have told this tail. It was along trip back from the edge of the bog to town. The party was careful and moved swiftly, managing to avoid the attention of any more Knoll hunting parties.

By the time we got back to town a week had passed since we left.
We had gained 11 blood stone necklaces
150 silver
Crichton kept the Boss’s Axe (Single Hand, D10+1)
We also gained 254XP each

The Wolf Hunt

After from the ALE house we headed out of town following the road north.
After a long day of walking we reached the Old Wayhouse.

As it was getting late in the day Balor worked on getting a fire going. Will and Dirk decided to have a look in the building, while Crichton and Alven (sp?) went to check out the barn.

After finding a strange painting on the wall (pointy eared figure with a horn?) Dirk was feeling very jumpy and decided to go and fetch Balor before they got too deep into the old house. Will was having none of that and made for the stairs as soon a Dirk was out the door.

Alven was also very nervous poking around the barn with his sword out. Crichton was looking for a good place to sleep for the night when there was a loud explosion.

Out side Balor, on his way to the house had come under fire from a pair of goblins. Crichton ran from the barn to the tree line heading for the action. Balor was able to recover him self and smite the attacking goblins with great speed.

Balor then set off the house again and on entering found Will surrounded with a a goblin spear sticking out of his back. On hammer blow to the face was enough to make the nearest goblin a red smear on the wall. Crichton and Dirk then came running into the room. Crichton headed for stair to help Will, and started wailing on the opposition. After Balor noticed that nobody had seen Alven since the attack went to fined him in the barn.

Alven had every thing under control after dispatching 12 of the little buggers before Balor arrived to finish off the last.

The party then settled in for the night taking 2hour watches. The discussions centered on the note book that Alven had found in the barn.

A pocket book of names and numbers.

It was Will’s shift when his goat rose the alarm. Some figures were crossing the fence line, heading straight for camp. Everybody woke up to see what was happening Balor was mutter something about the undead. It wasn’t until they got close to the fire that it was clear they were skeletons. Alven got some bolts off as they approached. Everybody got to work pounding on them. There were a few close calls as Crichton nearly got his spine severed. It took a long time for the tired party to notice that the edged weapons were not having the desired effect. Crichton pulled out his club, and Alven and Will both grabbed logs from the fire, a far more effective strategy.

When morning rolled around we looted the bones of our foes, and took a skull as a trophy. We then spent the morning searching the grounds of the Wayhouse with little success before heading back to the road and heading north to the forest. Everybody was feeling sick after the nights events, (It ended up take another day for everybody to recover). A few hours into the thick forest we came across a party of well armored hob-goblins. An ambush of sorts was planed by Will and Alven, as they were not the most strategic of thinkers, the ambush came as a surprise to the rest of the group. Everybody fought bravely and they were dispatched with out too much indecent.

The decision was made that this was a successful first adventure with some silver, loot and couple of trophies collected, even if we didn’t see any wolves. The party then spend the next couple of days make their way uneventfully back to the Ale House.
